Their hood goes from 97th Street (north) to 107th Street (south) between Wilmington (west) and Alameda (east).
They are the largest Crip neighborhood in Watts and the second largest overall black gang in the area, second to the Bounty Hunter Bloods. GSW is named after Grape Street so they wear purple to represent Grape. Another major street in the heart of their hood is 103rd street, so they also claim 103 GSW.
During the 1970s, this hood was called Watts Varrio Grape (WVG), which included both Mexican and Blacc members in one gang. Soon Mexicans WVGs aligned themselves under the Sureno banner as South Siders and changed their name to South Side Watts Varrio Grape Street. Black WVGs then changed their name to East Side Watts Varrio Grape. Around 1987, the name changed to East Side Grape Street Watts Baby Loc Crips. All new members after 1987 that were from the Jordan Downs Public Housing projects went by the shorter new name Baby Loc Crips, but some members from Anzac, 95th, 97th Banderas Blocc, 105s, 107s and 112s cliccs do not necessarily go by the name Baby Locs and some old long time members of this neighborhood (pre-1987) still have WVG tattoos.
Grape Street Crips main rival are the Bounty Hunter Bloods located in the nearby Public Housing Project called Nickerson Gardens. Since the Watts gang truce of 1992, the rivalry has not been as intense as it was in the 1980s and early 1990s, but it does flare up periodically. The truce efforts that took place in Watts in 1992 should be a great example of what can be accomplished in other areas of the city if done in other neighborhoods.
The Grape Streets get along with most Compton Crip sets and Gangsta Crip sets. They get along with 83 Gangstas and sets in the Trey card. GSW is one of only a few Crip hoods that gets along with both Gangstas and Hoodstas. This mix of alliances is probably the legacy of the peace treaty in 92.
Basically everyone from South Central L.A. loves Watts 💙 cuz their grandparents are probably from there (in the 1950s, Watts was the only place in L.A. black people could live due to segregation).
One Crip set that GSW 103 Grape Street Watts fueds with is East Coast Crips (ECC).
