UGC was formed around 1973 as one of the first spin off gangs from the original Crips gang West Side Crips.
Monkey Man, an original Westside Crip from the “100s” faction, is considered the founder of the UnderGround Crips as the movement for specific neighborhood identity grew during the early 1970s. The original founders of UGC often spent time in the basement of a house off Western & 104th Streets, creating the name “Underground” but the gang could also be named after Curtis Mayfield’s 1971 song, “The Underground”.
Three of the UGCs crews are 103rd, 105th and 107th Street. In recent years they have added 106th Street as a fourth crew of UGC. The UGCs are part of the Rollin 100s alliance which started in jails and prisons during the early 1990s and is made up of gangs in the area of Century Blvd like the 1E11 NHCs.
